Dear all,
I just completed my 6th stay in this wonderful hotel, the best hotel of the world IMO. Despite that 30 staff members are now working in the newly opened Sofitel Phnom Penh (see my review in another thread : http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/accor...l#post15850886), there are still many staff members who know me and are always showing signs of being happy to see me again. Its almost like staying with family. Check-in was good as usual. I was upgraded instantly to the upper category room facing the huge pool area. I was given the welcome drink voucher to be used at the bar (valid for everything including champagne) and a huge fruit basket was waiting for me in the room. In the evening, apart for the turndown service, they bring me a complimentary bottle of red wine (I had this also the previous year). Almost every night, during the turndown service, a gift was placed on the bed (pack of Kompot pepper, scarfs, pack of curry spices, etc) : a very nice touch.
The hotel was very busy during the 1st part of my stay, as it was the week of the Chinese new year. So there were a lot of Chinese, the French being the 2nd most important group in the hotel. Its something that I will remember : do not visit Angkor temples during the week of Chinese new year. Ive never seen so much people around. Thousands of loud Chinese people visiting the temples in groups
. There were even huge traffic jams on the road around the temples. A nightmare. This was the 1st time I was seing this, being a frequent visitor there. Ta Prohm temple was impossible to visit in a correct manner. Thanks to my favourite tuk-tuk driver (I have the same every year
), I was able to escape this nightmare and find a way to see these wonderful temples in a satisfactory way.
FYI, every year I use some A-Club vouchers (in USD) to pay part of my bill in this hotel, without any problem. This year, I used 10 vouchers !
Im always extremely sad to leave this hotel (the tears are never far, especially this year as the staff is nicer and nicer with me at each new stay, and one ever told me I was their preferred customer due to my loyalty). Many hotel staff in the world should learn from those of Sofitel Angkor ^.
So, for those of you who never visited these wonders of the world that are the Angkor temples, do not hesitate to go there and stay at Sofitel Royal Angkor, the best hotel with the greatest staff to enjoy the Cambodian friendliness. and kindness

This post is to be read eventually in conjunction with post #6 of this thread :

As already said in previous posts, I'm a regular visitor in this hotel (7th stay) that is for me "the best hotel in the world". We were staying a few days before arriving there in Sofitel PNH and the GM told us that they would announce our arrival there. This was true as, as soon as we arrived and already greeted nicely by some staff members who know us and were sincerely happy to see us again, we were personnally welcomed by the font office manager shortly followed by the new GM who took some time with us.
Unfortunately, no room upgrade was possible as the hotel was 100% full for all the duration of our stay (1 week), but they said that they made sure we had nice rooms with pool view. Of course, upgrade would have been nice but I have no problem with this as it should not be considered as "given" or guaranteed. We had the room category we booked and pay for and they made sure we had "good" rooms, so I consider we had a "good treatment"
.
And it is true that the hotel was very busy. Welcome drink voucher was given.
In the room, a huge fruit basket was provided, as well as a complimentary bottle of red wine. A gift was put in room during the turndown service 3 times during the stay and include pepper bag, cinnamon bag, Khmer scarf ^.
As we already spoke a lot about this hotel in previous posts, I will not be too long here. So I'll just say that the stay was absolutely great as usual and we had really great moments with several of the staff members that we know after so much stays. As in PNH, we saw several times the GM and his assistant during the stay and they always took the time to discuss and ask if everything was OK.
Departure was very difficult as usual (I mean it's hard to leave) and many staff members were outside near the tuk tuk to wave goodbye and hoping to see us again. Almost cried
AClub points were posted very rapidly.
Can't wait for the next stay

. I can't imagine to stay in another hotel in Siem Reap
For the tuk-tuk, I always use the same every year. The 1st time I used his services, he was just one of the tuk-tuk waiting in front of the hotel (so the answer to your question is yes for both points as he's working preferentially for the Sofitel). The following year, by pure chance, he was there also at the time I was needing one. And since that, I make sure when I arrive to advise the doorman of the Sofitel to look for him and to tell him to be there at a certain time. It's nice to have established a good relationship with him because he's a nice guy and of course because I trust him. I have his card with phone number & e-mail address if somebody's interested.

So do you collect TukTuk miles on your Flying Blue Platinum Card, A-Club Plat or TukTuk Gold card? You should have gathered enough miles to get you to the Angkor Watt (from the Sofitel) and BACK again in one of those luxury TukTuk's with cushion seats ^

Superior versus Luxury room?
Hi! I'm looking to book a couple of nights at the Sofitel Siem Reap since it has much better reviews than the Meridien and I've come across a great 40% off private sale. There's just a slight price difference between the superior and luxury rooms, but since we're taking a month belated honeymoon it makes a bit of a difference in our budget. Is it worth the difference to book a luxury room?
Thanks!
Thanks!

. Total nightmare on the temples. Check for the dates of the coming year on the Internet and add a few extra days as a safety margin.

Excellent review. I stayed there last October and it was just perfect (except for the 30+ min. check-out....). Friendly staff, well kept property, clean, etc...
Would definitely recommend this over the Hotel de la Paix (which is soon changing name I believe). Not that this latter does not look nice but the feel is a bit less... local. Depends on what you want I guess.

Dear all and especially to Goldorak
Two months away from my stay in Sofitel Angkor but I just have a chance to write complete review about my excellent stay in Sofitel Angkor just now. I must say that I have to take off my hat to Goldorak here since it was based on his recommendation
I just won two nights stay from Accor Ultimate Packer Quiz on September which allow me to stay anywhere (room only) in Asia-Pacific within six months from the announcement date. However, they only provide six weeks to consider which Accor property that I wanted to stay.
Since October is my birthday so I prefer to stay during the weekend that I celebrate my birthday so I pm to Goldorak here and asked him everything about Sofitel Angkor and also Siem Reap since I've never been there before.
From the reservation process, I knew that is going to be very pleasant stay. Eventhough that my stays were free, but I'm really extremely pleased to found out that the reservation officer wouldn't hesitate to answer all of my needs including cancelling the extra bed since one of my friend cancel the trip due to business travel.
My friend and I only slept for 1-2 hours since the flight requiring midnight transit time in Kuala Lumpur Airport (different terminals also) so we were very tired upon our arrival in the hotel and probably no one would think that we could afford to stay at hotel such Sofitel. However, the check-in process was very good and staff didn't judge the guests by their appearance; which is very good. (y) heheh. We were told that our room was upgraded to Luxury room and suddenly Mr. Sam Sorn (a very friendly Front Office Manager) approached me and thanking for my loyalty as Platinum. I think that was very pleasant surprise since I almost forgot the last time in any Accor hotels that one of the manager greet me..hmm, I think the last time was in MGallery Phoenix Yogyakarta; on my previous birthday in 2011. I also got early check-in at 9 am (presumably that the reservation officer knew when my arrival time).
The luxury room has its own balcony overlooking to the ponds. There are also two chairs on the balcony to relax. Some minutes after entering the room, there were housekeeping delivering welcome fruit platter and also some Cambodian breads which are nice welcome gesture.
We went to the bar lounge to get our welcome drink. I thought that probably we're only get fruit punch-standard welcome drinks in South East Asia..
However, the bar staff told me that "since you are our Platinum member, you may choose any drinks on the menu including the alcoholic one". Woww...that's what I called service !!! But since I'm muslim and I can't drink alcoholic drink so I chose Iced Chocolate while my friend order alcoholic one.
After exhausting during first day trip in Siem Reap, we came back to the hotel in the evening and found out that there is a birthday cake and some light snacks on my room with a handwriting greeting from Mr. Fabrice Ducry (GM of the hotel). We decided to dine at the hotel in favor our goodwill since the hotel has took care of us very well. I must say that the Beef Lok Lak in the restaurant probably the best Beef Lok Lak I've ever ate in Siem Reap. (I ate beef Lok Lak all the time in other Cambodian restaurants
) There was also Apsara dancing during the dinner so it also another excitement to dine at the hotel.
One of my favorite spot in the hotel is their Lobby when there is a Cambodian live music playing there. It feels so tranquil and peaceful; feels like I've been zapped to the past where Kingdom of Angkor still exist.
One night before my departure, I've found out that there's another greeting from Mr. Ducry saying goodbye and wished for my pleasant journey including giving two Cambodian Scarfs and Amok as souvenir to be taken home. Oh my...I really felt that the service provided Sofitel Angkor has far exceeded my expectations. That's why I knew why Goldorak always come back to Sofitel Angkor.
After my review has been posted to tripadvisor, GM of the hotel thanks to me for my review and he told me that my review has been posted in a spot of the hotel so all of the staffs can read it.
