Smoke Free???
When requesting a room I always ask for a smoke free room. Most of the time things go great and the door to the room has that "no smoking symbol"
BUT sometimes there is just a folded card on the table with "no smoking" and nothing on the door.
Did they just take a regular room and put a card in it and rent it as smoke free?
Has anyone else has this happen?

Most hotels are just plain lazy... There have been several times when I've arrived at my specifically requested smoking room only to find non-smoking signage. A call to the front desk sometimes gets a reassignment; but most often housekeeping just shows up with an ashtray.

Baobab - Kipling's great for all ages, it's been awhile.
Hammertoad, thanks for confirming my suspicions.
As an ex-smoker it really does hit you as you open the door. If asking sweetly doesn't work maybe the stompin will.

I have been in non-smoking rooms on non-smoking floors that have had cigarette burns on the carpet. Some have had ashtrays and matches.
The worst room I had was in Vegas. I reserved non-smoking, but arrived late, and the only room was a smoking room. I lasted the night, but changed rooms the next day. Of course, after any trip to Vegas, everything smells of smoke when you return. Even if you are a non-smoker.
