Even though Orbitz is partially owned by UA, UA will disavow any responsibilities for tickets not purchased through its own venues (the bomb or the phone or the non-existent city ticket offices). If your tickets have the wrong names, you could face problems getting on the plane (since your ID must match your ticket) and even if somehow you got through on UA, the TSA won't let you through.
Orbitz is not owned by UA at all.
True, UA and five other major carriers invested $145 million in 1999 to start Orbitz up, but Orbitz is now owned by Travelport.
