I had a similar experience KOA-DEN. Went to sleep after dinner. Woke up 90 minutes prior to landing and the FA offered breakfast. I noticed they did not wake anyone for the service and only served those people who were awake and wanted food. They packed up the food about an hour out of Denver. Frankly, that would be my preferred way to handle a flight of that length and timing (red eye).
I generally like the traditional Hawaiian breakfast of scrambled eggs, Portuguese sausage and rice but I didn't need it. Could have used a cup of coffee before we landed though ...
