You don’t want to reopen a closed account, you want to open a new one.
Ask if you can do that.
Why would you have closed the original one? Have a good reason when you talk to an agent, like you moved out of town.
If your account was closed on favorable conditions, there should be no reason for them to deny you a new one.

OTOH, if you left owing them money or jilted them on paying a fee, or was just a PIA, then understandable that they don’t want you back.

Also, make sure your name/SSN isn’t on the CHEX system 😳
