By letting Medallion's still have "status" they can keep people hooked to DL versus looking elsewhere. It won't work for everyone, but I'm sure they've run the numbers and know what they intend to hold onto. It's a smart move on their part. In recap, DL makes people think they still value their loyalty and gives them status, but in reality the status is devalued. The MQD levels will still exclude a good chunk of travelers in 2-3 years. By then, everyone will have forgotten about this..
