As OWE, you do not need to pay to select seats. For your companion, under the current rules, might need to pay depending on your fare class. Sometimes the seat selection can’t show properly because your booking have a OW status passenger and a no status companion with a light fare. Send CX a message thru twitter and request your seats.

7kg for your carry-on. But since you’re OWE you will check in at the First class counter. I doubt they’ll weigh your carry-on there.
