Funnily enough, I think you could make the exact opposite argument. Currently, AA is very significantly weaker on links to Europe than both DL and UA (except to LHR of course) and I think that they are just trying to catch up a little. For instance, to stick to the new destinations that have just opened, NCE is already served by DL and UA, CPH is already served by DL (and UA codeshares on the numerous SK flights to the US), and NAP is already served by UA.

NCE is very premium heavy. Both DL and UA fly their most premium heavy 767 configurations to NCE and the flights are packed in J (sadly!)
