More for 2024: American Airlines adds new routes and destinations to see the world next summer - American Airlines Newsroom (aa.com)

FORT WORTH, Texas Summer may be winding down, but its time to get a head start on planning next years summer vacation. American Airlines is excited to announce four new routes and bring back another route as part of the airlines largest trans-Atlantic expansion since 2019.

American will add new nonstop service to Europe, with flights from Philadelphia (PHL) to Copenhagen, Denmark (CPH); Naples, Italy (NAP); and Nice, France (NCE). American will also launch new service between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Barcelona, Spain (BCN) and bring back flights between Chicago (ORD) and Venice, Italy (VCE).

American is thrilled to add three new European destinations, said Brian Znotins, Americans Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. New service from Philadelphia and expanded trans-Atlantic service from Chicago and Dallas-Fort Worth will offer customers convenient one-stop access from more than 200 unique destinations across the U.S. to Europe next summer.
BTW, these are all ex-PHL beginning summer 2024. AA also will launch DFW-BCN and bring back ORD-VCE. Tickets go on sale on Monday.

Oh man, that PHL-CPH should be an easily clearable SWU, right?

The AA news release, which includes additional service expansions in Europe (e.g. PHL-BCN/LIS going full year-round) and LatAm: https://news.aa.com/news/news-detail...8/default.aspx

The most interesting thing of this is that not a single route involves JFK. Says a lot about where AA sees that station going with the NEA gone. I wonder if there will be any capacity pulled from there to provide frames for these routes?

Frankly, the year-round service expansions here are more interesting (IMO), than the additional VCE and BCN services.

It would seem, per this AA video interview, the cuts are to balance airframes for summer-winter profit points along with MX.

What a shame that KRK didn't make the cut. It's a great destination and a lot of visitors.

So all these new PHL to EU flights and PHL is a ghost town after 9 pm. AA should be opening up a Flagship Lounge now no doubt.

Europe, that is it... AA seems to be getting weaker in overall international destinations (Europe is not the only international destinations) compared to DL and UA. I am facing more and more situations flying on OneWorld codeshare flights internationally than flying on AA operated flights. On my previous international flight, BOS-JFK was the only segment the flight was operated by AA.

It's a bit of a risk to operate one of the larger frames on a brand new route. However, CPH and NCE being served with the 789 makes me think they expect the front of the plane to sell.

Funnily enough, I think you could make the exact opposite argument. Currently, AA is very significantly weaker on links to Europe than both DL and UA (except to LHR of course) and I think that they are just trying to catch up a little. For instance, to stick to the new destinations that have just opened, NCE is already served by DL and UA, CPH is already served by DL (and UA codeshares on the numerous SK flights to the US), and NAP is already served by UA.

NCE is very premium heavy. Both DL and UA fly their most premium heavy 767 configurations to NCE and the flights are packed in J (sadly!)

While I agree with you, and the lack of progress on a FL @ PHL is very disappointing, given that, for years, there is just zero demonstrable progress on this effort, I just don't see any way that AA can get there act together to get an FL complete and open for summer 2024 seasonal routes. Heck, they announced that a brand new, flagship AC would be built in Austin, press release was dated November 2021 and it said "construction will begin next year" (i.e. 2022). Not a single hammer has been swung to date and to my knowledge, they haven't even confidently identified where the new club is supposed to be located.

Just no way a PHL FL gets done in time for these seasonal flights...

Honestly, my very first though when I read the list of adds was that PHL-CPH won't be successful. Fly it while it exists...

Recirculating this 11 month old video is gaslighting . Building the schedule, re building , etc. Verbatim. How about not selling $2500-$3500 airfare buckets on the DFW-AKL route ? What a brainchild this SVP must be.
