My cursory examination says that the Cleveland Clinic, Kroger, Wal-Mart, Amazon, three hospital systems in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus and OSU all employ more people. But ninth isn't bad. I don't have anything against Dayton (in fact, I enjoyed two nights of basketball there recently) but the metro area is down in population over the last two decades.
I suppose this is what’s more accurate:
“Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is considered the largest employer at a single location in the state, with 32,514 employees at the Dayton air force base”

I remember it being said about WPAFB being the largest employer in the state both times I’ve inprocessed here but perhaps this is what they were trying to convey.
