I have two experiences at EDITIONs (New York and Abu Dhabi) where they have granted suite upgrades to people with no previous stays. I got a pretty decent upgrade to the West Hollywood edition.
Overall, the only meaningful difference between elite benefits at EDITION and St. Regis is the lack of a breakfast benefit imo. While you cannot SNA into EDITIONs, SNAs have become increasingly useless anyway.
