AFAIK that’s the surefire way. If suites are available for award bookings, point upgrades to paid rates are on the table. With all the gotchas mentioned. If not don’t bother.
Yes, that does seem to be a more successful route. But it’s frustrating that the terms don’t say. If there are suites galore at cash rate but not award, they still seem to be saying nope.
