All of my iPhones that have had FaceID have worked normally with or without sunglasses. If that is an issue for yours, I suggest resetting it and then test for function. I also always wear polarized lens glasses, which do not seem to interfere with the sensing.
I'll try that resetting of it again, and see how it goes.
The FaceID problem I encounter comes when using some iridium-coated lenses on sunglasses I use while biking at times. Tipping my head back while trying to give the camera a peak below the frames sometimes works but it's just not reliable enough that way to be convenient. So on some days where I'm biking I go out with one of the fingerprint-using phones instead of the FaceID ones, and that's because of the sunglasses.
