With the majors not offering much in the way of first class service and more on the level of WN, why not? You are probably not going to get first class service on any major because most destinations are less than 3 hours away.
For many of us, the service is secondary - it is all about the seat. While I have an expectations of drinks as part of my F service - I rarely eat the food - my morning HNL-SFO next week is likely a snack box, I will plan accordingly.
If the price of a UA ticket is out of bounds compared to lets say HA or AS out of HNL, I'll buy a ticket on them - but I've never considered WN to OAK simply because a F seat does not exist.
For the folks who love WN - this is good for them, another option. For folks price sensitive - it is also another option. Will WN at least start with low fares - probably - and I anticipate UA matching so we UA fliers also win.
