They had plenty of time to work on a solution. These people are required to be quarantined by the directive so I support the crews' decision.
There are cruise ships around the world that have been denied port entry for several weeks. So they try other ports, until one accepts them. Some have passengers/crews that show symptoms and other do not.

Heard on local Au radio this morning (~7 hrs ago) when a cruise passenger phoned into an Au morning radio show (Macca all over). There is also a group of AU & NZ cruse ship passengers that landed in Miami in the last ~24hrs. Then a charter today to SFO? and onto SYD (on a scheduled service). Only UA now has schedules flights USA to AU. I would be very concerned with any pax from NYC. May or may not be related. but there is a non-scheduled QF B747 now flying SYD-LAX. Left ~09:30 [Au local time is 13:19 Sunday 5 April]
