IMHO this is the best reason to self-insure whenever you can afford to absorb a loss. Insurance costs double the expected value of your expense and then you have to work hard to collect.
Self insurance is your best bet.
After all, insurance companies ALWAYS come out ahead. That is why they sell it. LOL!
