The other person that paid for the other room was told that because the reservation was made under MY Bonvoy #, he cant get the points either even though
he paid for the room !

At a minimum, one of us should get the points for the 2nd room right?
The hotel should be able switch the other room to the other person's Bonvoy number and give them the points. You might try talking directly to the hotel to get the switch made. I have been able to accomplish this retroactively, but it is much easier to do at check in. They still might mess it up, but a phone call usually solves the problem.
