Very nicely, I explained that I know the system is very tricky with this conversion and that I wanted to cancel my certificate only if she was able to convert it to a QP91. She said she understood and put me on hold. While I was on hold, I saw the certificate taken out of my account, cancelled, and converted to a NC4. When she came back on the line, she was actually quite curt and said, "I have cancelled your old certificate. There are no upgrades. I happen to like my job and don't want to lose it by doing something that I know is not allowed. Hold please for a loyalty specialist." I tried to plead my case again (super nicely) and she cut me off mid-sentence and suddenly I was transferred to a loyalty specialist. I waited on hold for 18 minutes at which point a "supervisor" answered my call. She was very polite but explicitly said that no modifications could be made and that she would open up a case for me. She asked if I wanted to be contacted via phone or email regarding my case. I told her by phone.
This morning I got an email from Marriott regarding my case. It said, "I'm very sorry but we are unable to upgrade any travel package in our system."
I tried to follow all the tips and suggestions on this thread. I never used the word "upgrade." I was super nice and friendly and tried to explain everything very specifically. No luck for me!
Anyone have any great suggestions for an amazing Category 4 hotel for a one week stay with two small kids?
How small are the kids? I had a great time in Portland with the family staying at the RI at PDX. I didn't use the 7 night certificate as we split our time between Portland and Seattle, but I would totally recommend it. I am actually contemplating doing the trip again this year and using the full 7 nights there, especially if we go during snow season. The kids had a blast.
