Before hanging up, I asked her if I would be allowed a one year extension on my certificates if I wanted to use them in Jan 2021. She said "Yes, because what you did today was a conversion, not an extension. So you will be allowed one extension if you wish."
Perhaps others can verify when they call in, but this agent sure sounded like she knew what she was talking about.
i still have OC certs and will convert to NC soon. like many on this thread, mine will expire in a few days and will convert which should grant me a new 12mo expiration date without asking.
however, has there been any DPs about OC to NC conversions where the new expiration date did NOT reset? i assume NO because the issuance of converted NCs automatically have a fresh new 12mo expiration date since OCs are on a different legacy platform. so in theory, the fresh new NC should still be eligible for a courtesy extension because its a brand new cert, but only time will tell. everyone here has TP from 2018 and are converting with new expiration dates. dont think any conversions have resulted in keeping the OC expiration date unless manually changed by the agent.
also, im basing my guess on how normal CC free night certs with starriott are handled. new certs are granted 1yr extensions but the extended certs are labeled and categorized differently under "Replacement Certs" which can not be extended again. these certs run on the same platform. my guess is that the OC/NC conversion does NOT = extension because OCs are on a legacy platform, hence the need for a conversion. so the new certs should be eligible for a new extension. just a guess. i believe starriott is still running 2 different platforms simultaneously until a certain time.
would love to see DP about OC to NC conversion from 2018 w/ expiring dates in 2019 getting another 12mo extension. but that may be YMMV. many TCs can change in the next 12mo and all converted NCs may not be allowed for an extension.
EDIT I: called 801-468-4000. just kept pressing 0. "elite services" picked up. converted straight from OC to NC. no upgrades or downgrades. 5min. knew whats up. auto 12mo fresh new expiration date. then asked about another 12mo courtesy extension next year, i was told YES. we will see in practice. TBD. 1yr OC + 1yr NC + 1yr NC Ext = 3 years would be awesome. i believe some even extended their old OC +1yr pre-merger so its 4 years total w/ NC ext.
EDIT II: I thought I had read enough posts, but i must have missed the part about the straight conversion from OC to NC actually requiring points to be moved in/out just like an upgrade/downgrade. Meaning my 7 night OC5 830T/P830 to NC4 QP83, actually shows up in my activities as "Cancelled 45,000 Rewards" and "Ordered -45,000 Rewards". Net was 0. However, this shows that the new platform and the reps do in fact have the ability to "sell you" 7 night NC packages for points without any "special access" or may accidentally redeem extra packages for bargain points by mistake. very interesting. if i was given the opp, i would buy many 45k 7 night packages. totally worth it.
