First, as I told you, if someone has a compelling reason, i.e. an emergency, I would consider switching. However, irrespective of the reason, I'm a lot less likely to find the reason compelling if someone has poached my seat. It's got nothing to do with making me "feel better" about anything. Poaching a seat is taking something that's not yours. It's rude. It's inconsiderate. It assumes you'll acquiesce.

However, I'd really like you to explain this: Why is it being a jerk to refuse to swap seats? What is it, in your view, that is an expression of "jerkiness" to not wish to inconvenience myself for a problem that another pax has with the airline?
