Yes, there is
current overcapacity, but this probably won't last and the 10 abreast won't arrive for over a year. The airline needs to be able to grow to compete and spread its fixed costs over more capacity. By adding one seat to each row, CX can increase their own capacity at very little marginal cost compared to adding an extra flight.
