You need to push it to other carriers airlines, including ANZ. It's just ridiculous for two days of delay. You should have asked for full day of meal vouchers before your flight to SYD. At this point I don't know how we can trust AA operations. Just make them put you into partner airlines and be done with it. Google flights are always your friend when trying to figure out the rerouting options. The options they gave you were the most cost-effective for them. I would never take their option unless it makes perfect sense for me.
FLounge was closed, so was with about 11 other people (that's how many elites were flying apparently) when I got my Blackberry notification that the flight was cancelled, about 1 minute before everyone else got the email, so I was first in line of the 11 people (they were still on the speaker phone with Operations when I got the notification) and I said flights canceled.
They were still talking and then 15s later, guy on the speaker said, ok it's canceled.
So I had immediately pulled up EF and saw the NZ flights were already 0'd and now AA83 was also 0'd.
There were other options I could have pushed, like CX in the AM LAX-HKG-AKL arriving at 10:00 so 27h10m later, but no way Mrs. Zabes64 was doing 14 hours to HKG and then 10 hours to AKL.
Like I said, we chose to invoke Trip in Vain which apparently as I'm finding out only the AA employees seem to know about, the US employees just wanted to charge us fees.
Trip ended in IAD at 18:25 on Thursday so 28h30m later and it ended with Mrs. Zabes64 having a bag missing, stolen, lost (however you want to phrase it) from the overhead bin from First Class, since she waited from me in Economy (yes I gave her the only First Class seat available on the flight), and by the time we got her bag, realized her other small bag was taken.
So end of the trip mirrored the rest of it. Baggage claim report and police report filed, yay.
Sent an email off to an Executive and Ms. Rubin's former Admin Asst, interested to see what comes or doesn't come of it.
