Three of those were actually at the same property (Hyatt Regency Clearwater Beach) when we visited three years in a row. On each occasion we booked their standard room, and ended up getting the upgrade to their one-bedroom Gulf-front suite. ^
The other time was a couple of years ago at the Grand Hyatt Seattle when they upgraded us from their standard room to their Emerald Suite.
But, these are definitely not common for a Platinum member, so they've come as a pleasant surprise.
Last few times when I've been at that property as a Hyatt Diamond, the HR Clearwater put me up in big studio type rooms, but not any kind of suite with a separated bedroom. And my stays there are not during peak periods. It may have had to do with the negotiated rate being rather cheap, but still no upgrade even as a Diamond. Ordinarily, Platinums may get a better view, higher floor or slightly larger room than most other customers, but the upgrades are more likely more noticeable and frequent as a Diamond than as a Platinum when it comes to most properties. But there could be an element of the rate making a difference too.
