. BTW, Google still works as (to me surprise) there is some anti-tampering feature of Windows Defender that removes redirects of certain well-known sites.
It wasn't advice to everyone to do the same, and hopefully no one would just do something suggested by a complete stranger that mangles their internet settings.
It was info that hopefully will allow the IB team to figure out who / what may be sending over the flaky content.
Welcome to the Internet where people do do random .... they see online without understanding what it does. Thus why I felt that hosts file deserved a warning that it would break large portions of the Internet (Google hosts content a lot of people don't even think of... Such as the site search on many others' websites)
