I've paid over $7,000 in dues to AFA when I was at US. Each contract was worse than the one before, and the last one effectively made my seniority useless. But I did get a magazine in the mail endorsing politicians I never had any intention of voting for, so at least I had that going for me.

Nothing wrong with a little flair. Now, I want to see a female wearing two of these pins so I can say "Hey, nice double Ds!"

There are also things like duty rigs and other quality of life things beyond a payscale.

There is not a hard union mentality at WN. Generally, nobody gets bent out of shape if someone pitches in with work when needed, if that person helping is doing a union job without being a member. There were countless times when myself and the rest of my crew could have helped out with cleaning the aircraft to keep on time, but heaven help us if we were caught by someone in the Fleet Service union. Incidentally, the Fleet Service work was outsourced a long time ago, and where there are no contract cleaners, the FAs are now expected to clean the aircraft.
