I almost had this happen but it was caught in a rather BS manner I thought. Was checking in at a holiday inn at around 1am and the night manager was finding my room. It seemed they had problems identifying what was empty so he gave me a room key and said hold on, dialed a number on speaker phone, someone picked up sleepily then he hung up and said sorry that one is dirty let me find you another. Rather stupid way to do things i thought but at least i didn't walk in on someone sleeping.
