Also, from my experience with a medical diversion to Ottawa on AMS-MSP, if the patient needs a visa for Canada, the situation becomes more complicated and causes the plane to stay on the ground much longer than an hour. It made me wonder why we didn't aim for BUF or DTW because people were aware of the patient's nationality.
In a medical diversion, you want to get the sick person to a hospital ASAP. I'm pretty sure a corpse doesn't need a visa...

While the logic would normally make sense, as others have pointed out this isnt exactly like pulling up to A25 in ATL.
I highly doubt the contractors who run the island were worried about who had "higher average fares" so that they could ensure more comfortable digs. I mean, really?
