The Southern service from Victoria to Gatwick runs at least every 15 minutes, with one or two extra trains also (so is more frequent than the Gatwick Express). It is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. The downside is that it stops at Clapham Junction and East Croydon, adding less than ten minutes to a 30 minute trip. To my mind, no biggie given the cost saving. Also, depending where you are going in London, Clapham Junction might suit you better.
