I'm a professional and have to travel occasionally for a living. I don't travel enough to be an elite status traveler and my company is unwilling to pay for the extras. Just doing my best given my set of circumstances.

I understand that you probably didn't mean to indicate that you were trying to cheat the system, but if you go back and look at your email you can see how it did give that impression. You said that you were looking for a way around having to pay for a seat.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to get the choice seats without paying for them, unless you wait for the very last minute before boarding (and even then they may not give it to you).
It has been a hotly debated topic here because they even charge their top level elites to sit in those seats.
