I believe the AA rep posted upthread that the 10% rebate only applies to awards booked on or after April 2, or was that answer only in regard to the free checked bag benefit?

If you cancel and rebook, then yes, you would get the 10% because it would be a new booking. As long as there is award space available to rebook, of course. If you are not EXP, I believe you'll have to pay a fee to redeposit the miles, plus a ticketing fee.
