While I agree with the spirit of your post, I actually don't think it's good for morale.
It's fine for the employees of a company to "let off steam". I'm sure we all do it.
But when it's done on the job, in front of customers, I think it's unprofessional. To me, it comes across as whiny and small-minded. I'm a life-long CO flyer, but I'm sort of embarrased for CO when I hear a pilot announce that the passengers are being served by a Continental crew.
