But given the above, it sounds like my alerts was only run a couple of times per day.
There is currently no B class availability for that flight:

It is likely that you saw the inventory and purchased the B ticket before the alert check ran. However according to our records, the alert wasn't created until the afternoon of the 22nd, not the 21st.
