When I checked last year for some people who asked for my advice on transiting there, it was the same price for 1 or 2 people, but then jumped up for 3 or more. But regardless, if you have to pay the 700 THB tax, it is per person, so the increased price is offset by that. If you have a group of 3 or more and don't need to pay the 700 THB tax, then you can definitely find a hotel room outside the airport for cheaper.

I personally don't see any scenario myself where I would stay there again, simply due to a matter of principle. I feel that the rooms are a ripoff, given the prices they are charging and I don't want to support such practices, even if it makes sense from a practical point of view. But I can see it being practical for some people, such as Airgroovin' who don't want the hassle of leaving the airport and the time involved.
