EWR serves quite a big market going South, West and Northwest where JFK doesn't make sense. I was at a CX event awhile back and it sounded like EWR is getting serious consideration - this was pre-ORD announcement - and it was mentioned in the same breath. In fact, it is only one-hour from Philly to EWR Station on Amtrak (I think the same or less from some Philly burbs) so an EWR route isn't just about NYC.
EWR is never about sharing market with JFK, I've said this many times. I don't know why some people still think EWR is only about JFK, it isn't.
It's about New Jersey market, East Penn market, Philadelphia market, and even Delaware market. These are golden markets with great amount of white collar people, great amount of people from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. These are lucrative markets that have great premium cabin potential. Also, there are great amount of people from India too. With CX great transit hub in HKG, great services and reputation, if CX offers EWR I can almost guarantee you the success will be instantaneous, WITHOUT affect JFK market at all.
We have typed many times how hard it is to get to JFK on the other side of Hudson River. Anyway, it's old news now.
