I don't want to judge people on this forum, but it is kind of funny to hear them make comments about Greater New York area and how "easy" it is to get to JFK, when people like us living in this area for decades know full well what a horrific experience it can be, especially if you are traveling with more than one luggage.
I agree. Had flied 3+ EVA EWR-TPE for 10+ years and definitely will jump to CX if CX enter EWR with daily flight to HKG. It really take me 2 extra hours to JFK if I hire taxi and will take extra 4+ hours if I take EVA's free shuttle to JFK after Oct 31. (Not to mention stress suffer..) Eva shuttle will pick up on 5:15PM at NJ Asian market for 11:50PM flight which is 7 hours before the departure. It is a torture before a long haul flight.
I am one of my 10+ friends (live in NJ)that will choose CX if they enter EWR even I need to have HK connection to TPE . EWR departure means a lot for NJ residents. If CX can not do it, most of us will choose CO which provide various daily flights to Asia. The major reason is EWR departure.
