I am a backpacker so having a standard cable is huge to me. If I have to bring a cable for my kindle and a different one for my phone I just bumped up my pack weight by an ounce or so that could have been invested in a Snickers bar that could power me up the mountain.

I even found a iPod on the street the other day, but I don't have a cable so I can't recharge it and I really don't care enough to buy one. Plus the thought of having iTunes clogging up my computer makes me feel icky.
I just use my iphone as a phone, Kindle and music player. One cable. If I have an iPad with me as well, much better for reading than the phone of course, I can use the same cable. I do have an Android phone as well so i need a second cable for that.
