I experienced my quickest and easiest US immigration in IAH a few months ago as I already reported in
this post. If you don't have any checked luggage you can go through a fast-track immigration which combines immigration and customs. I arrived in F and was one of the first off the plane but of course there were other flights which arrived before us. Ignore any HON PA because they can't do anything to speed things up as far as I could see.
No recent experience of LAX.
