On my friday flight 217 from JFK to LGB, we had CEO Dave Barger and Chief People officer Dave Clark.
They gave out free tickets during an in-flight trivia contest.
They also took questions and I asked about in-flight internet.
They said they get asked that question alot and that Beta Blue "just didn't work" but stay tuned because they will have something to announce in the near future.
The problem they had with BetaBlue (or really the Kiteline product) was that they couldn't get the antenna to work reliably. They contracted that part out to a 3rd party and it just never materialized. The contract was terminated within the past couple weeks based on some reports (
one of which was mine).
LiveTV has instead decided to focus on
Kiteline World with a trial hopeful by the end of the year. Here's the catch: Kiteline World is actually less bandwidth than the original Kiteline and JetBlue hasn't committed to trying it.
So JetBlue is pretty much back to square one. They have to pick a partner and a product and get it developed. I suppose they could try trading the ATG spectrum to Aircell in exchange for free service or something like that but it is anyone's guess right now.
