Thank you for reminding me of the Dunphy. I also stayed there several times in that same era. At that time, it and the old Hyatt House (reputedly, the nation's second airport-specific hotel) were the top-shelf SFO-area hotels.
Oh yeah....I have fond memories of the Dunphy (or Dunphey or whatever), quirks and all. Definitely an upper-echelon place. I was glad to see it find new life as a Marriott. Especially after seeing it as a vacant hulk for a couple of years.
The Hyatt was nice enough, but something about it just sort of left me flat.
