Excluding any breakfast we could get 2 rooms at the Dom for about the same price as 3 @ the 4P (3 rooms cost about €400 more).
If we add the breakfast over our 5 nights with only 2 rooms we would pay €232 more at the Dom if we all had breakfast every day.
Generally like breakfast to discuss schedule for meetings etc. at Messe during the day.
While Flying Lawyer used to glorify some hotels, because of single, however very positive personal experiences, he is right on the money in the case of the 4 Points Cologne, really a run down 2-3 star hotel....
If you intend to stay during a fair, I generally recommend to pick a hotel where the average room is solid, because upgrades are hard to come by. The Radisson Blu right across the fair is such a property, even the worst room is actually pretty solid. The worst room at the Dom is very small ( single 32 inch wide bed ) , same at the 4P. Atmosphere for breakfast at the Dom is very nice, though, the 4P breakfast room/restaurant is more like 2 star hotel on an island in Spain with tons of package tourists...there are several cafes a few hundred metres away from the Dom that offer a small breakfast buffet around Euro 10.
