I actually think you'll be seeing more non-stop flights from MKE to the West Coast. There's plenty of demand, especially during peak periods, to places like SEA, SFO, and SAN.
Part of the reason to offer non-stops is to take pressure off of flights in places like DEN 9 (or MCI for YX) and ensure that passengers aren't being turned away due to a lack of capacity.
YX's new CEO has stated that he intends to grow the MKE hub and funnel more passengers through it. This will happen through increased flights and F9 passengers connecting in MKE to places like BOS, DCA, and CMH.
