Coin lockers are pretty good for single day storage - but in many of those cases, you could check your bags through to the final destination. In the event you need to store bags overnight, the locker will charge you for two days. (and in many cases it would also be possible to just check the bags through).
To use the locker you have to pay the daily fee up front (mostly coins only - some "advanced" ones will let you pay wiith a SUICA). If you come back the next day, it will demand another day's worth of "rent" before allowing you to unlock it.
For more than a couple of days, you need to be aware that coin lockers get emptied out at some point. (I think it may be after the third day). So they aren't an option for longer term storage.
arrive NRT monday july 28 @ 1620
depart NRT wedsday july 30 @ 1555
According to the website link I posted the max is 3 days which seems to fit reasonably.
My logic is this..I haven't been back to japan for years, I've got a limited time and a lot I'd like to do and people to visit. My agenda is something like this (not quite firm)..
monday - NEX to yokohama (arr approx 1908), check into hotel, out to old izakaya haunt
tuesday - Keikyu to yokosuka to visit friends, then to haneda for flight to sapporo & shinkansen to hakodate (couldn't get the early direct flight I wanted to hako so I'm going this route which gets me to hako sooner)
weds - hako > haneda > maybe akihabara if I can fit it in > NRT > HKG > MAA
So it's only 2 nites but I'm on the first leg of a RTW ticket with more to go so my bag is going to be somewhat heavy and it's not a rollaboard...it also means I can safely carry on for my hokkaido flights.....whew!
