Book Your United Awards to India Starting at 42,500 Miles Round-Trip (Today Only)

In the wake of United Airlines resuming its nonstop flights between the United States and India in a couple of weeks, it’s offering a limited-time discount on award flights booked to the South Asian country today—and it’s significant for some MileagePlus members.

A typical one-way flight between North America and Central Asia (the region where India falls on United’s destinations chart) typically goes for 42,500 MileagePlus miles, which means that a round-trip will set you back 85,000 miles. However, round-trip flights start at 42,500 miles during today’s sale.

How much of a mileage rebate you’ll get depends on your elite status and whether you’re a co-branded credit card holder with the airline.

For co-branded cardmembers the rates are as follows:

  • Member – 50,000 miles
  • Premier Silver/Premier Gold – 47,000 miles
  • Premier Platinum/Premier 1K – 42,500 miles

For travelers who don’t hold a co-branded United credit card:

  • Member – 60,000 miles
  • Premier Silver/Premier Gold – 55,000 miles
  • Premier Platinum/Premier 1K – 50,000 miles

For example, I’m a United MileagePlus cardmember, but I don’t have any elite status. My redemption rates are 25,000 miles each way, or 50,000 miles round-trip, plus about $50 in taxes. As for availability, there’s plenty.

You must be logged in to your MileagePlus account to search for availability. It’s how the system determines whether you qualify for a lower redemption rate.

The discount is valid for travel between Sept. 6 and Nov. 3 from any U.S. city (as long as there’s Saver availability) via Newark (EWR) to either Mumbai (BOM) or New Delhi (DEL). The flights are operated by United Airlines, which means that partner-operated flights do not qualify for the discount. Additionally, only economy awards are on sale, and you won’t get a rebate on any travel in a premium cabin.

As a reminder, you must book your flight today, but the fare is eligible for FareLock. If you pay extra to hold the ticket, you’ll have between three days ($9.99) or seven days ($15.99) to decide if you want to fly, and the reserved fare won’t go up in price.

Will you be redeeming United miles for a flight to India today?
