I understand it's a competitive bid process that these NFL teams go through for their charters. Dollars are dollars.

But for the sake of employee welfare and community relations, UA with probably 5000-10000 SFO based employees would have the sense to 'do whatever it takes' to make the contract right.

And conversely, the 49ers, always wanting to seem like such a community partner, that they turn their back on the UA staff that roots for the team.

I wonder which airline the Atlanta Falcons charter?

shaking my head.....
If Smisek doesn't care about pax that ADD to UA's bottom line, why would he care about SFO-based employees that SUBTRACT from UA's bottom line??

Nowadays, it's all about dollars & cents (not sense!) at UA. BTW, UA is still working hard to cut $2B in costs.

Most of the NFL teams use DL. Arizona (US/AA hub) and New England (JetBlue hub) use Delta.

Does it really matter who flies what? Hey it negates the chance of a canceled UA charter flight due to mechanical being swap with a similar plane with paid pax.

Depends on the equipment. There's an old-config 744 out there that only does charters. I've never heard of it being swapped in for regular commercial service.

Yes, it is exciting for you New Yorkers that the Jets and the Giants will play in the Superbowl in their own home stadium!

The more serious kick to the groin was when the Seattle teams abandoned Alaska Airlines and went with DL...

i would assume it is strictly due to cost. DL seems to have a lot of NFL charters. I know that they fly the Packers, that was an old Northwest contract though.

They appear to charter the Eagles as well, even though of course PHL is a US fortress hub. So DL must have a lock on the NFL.

DL has had a big sports charter business for a while... either DL or NW even has/had low density configured narrowbodies for sports charters.
