Looks like my alma mater Tulane flew MSY-MCO as UA 1807 today. I for one don't think a 2-4 team deserves a shiny new 739 with WiFi

In most cases these days UA is letting the aircraft sit for a day where the game is being played rather then ferrying aircraft in and out.

Examples this weekend

UA 1823 Rutgers CMH 753 27 plus hours on the ground

UA 1830 Browns JAX 753 26 hours on the ground

UA 1838 Chiefs SAN 764 27 plus hours on the ground

Seems they have excess aircraft, beyond what's needed to operate the schedule and do scheduled maintenance

No, their Saturday flight schedule has been cut massively to serve these charters. There have been threads about the limited service offered by UA on weekends, and these charters are why. Better get the confirmed money than take chances with those dirty, unreliable passengers.

Sat schedule

Saturday schedule cuts have nothing to do with charters. If that is the case why is UX cut the most on weekends?

Actually, many mainline planes are replaced by RJs on weekends. That and the business destinations served by UX flights don't have the demand on weekends. But charters are mostly 767s and some 757s, which come from hub flights. Those are the ones that were cut on weekends to serve all the college and pro football charters (and baseball in September).

Here is an exception, UA 1852 Texans' charter to PIT operated today for the game tomorrow night. The B753 aircraft being ferried back to IAH UA 1852. For the return to IAH early AM Tuesday aircraft comes from IAD. I think they do this because Monday is out the normal weekend charter Sat/Sun window and utilize the aircraft. The time for UA 1852 back to IAH takes the aircraft that would be sitting all night at IAD anyway.

Giants are currently flying back to SFO on their charter. Flying a 764, #3052 as flight UA1806.

I couldn't imagine being the crew that has to work that flight. Probably the best assignment all year.

Well the game lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes which means it finished roughly around 10:20PM and the original departure was scheduled for 11:55PM. Given all the ceremonies, interviews, and getting stuff packed up for any team it takes time.

Rutgers uses B753

Just about every UA college football charter I see uses 737's but noticed Rutgers UA 1823 uses 757-300. Must be all those bucks they got form joining the Big Ten (actually now the Big 14)

Or priced reasonably (or the same) because they are EWR based .

Go Knights!
