CM & MC do LV - aug7 (day2)

day 2
-----
strangely enough, neither of us woke up with hangovers. apparently, we were saving that for later... we went downstairs for a delicious, complimentary spanish omelet breakfast topped off with mimosa (champagne & orange juice). ah, it was going to be a good day.

we started off at a blackjack table. catman pulled out his "cheat card" -- a card that another casino had sold him for $1.50 to tell him how to bet. it worked pretty good for him on this trip. every time that he won $15 at a table, he would lock that up and walk away a winner. this bit of clever money-management would win him about $300 over the duration of our 3-day mini-vacation. not bad for a beginner.

since both of were in the winning column so far, we decided to venture out and find cigars to celebrate. we found a place on fremont street that had a full-room humidor. i found an amaretto-flavored cigar and catman decided on a rum-flavor (sorry PremEx, i know you're turning green now, but hey, we're amateurs here!!). at this point, catman realized he was the only one of us without a drink in his hand, and rushed into a 7-11 to reload, apparently breaking about the only law you CAN break in las vegas by opening the bottle inside the store (it didn't have a screw off top, so he used the store's souvenir bottle opener). off we went to people watch. unfortunately, the people were watching us, too. by the time we had made one complete trip around the fremont district (about five square blocks), we were many dollars lighter from all the change we kept handing out to the homeless people -- probably the same people who, months earlier, had been taking a leisurely stroll around the fremont district with a beer&cigar in hand -- they just didn't leave las vegas early enough...

NJdavid had given catman $20 to gamble for him at the mandalay bay casino. we went back to the lady luck and asked them if they would mind giving us a limo ride to the mandalay bay, and they gladly whisked us away -- it was chivas regal time again. once we got to the bay, catman picked out a "lucky-looking" slot machine, and deposited dave's bundle into it. after a few bar-bar-bar combinations, he was up to $50, cashed out, and tucked the money away for safekeeping. now we started playing with our own money. catman sat down at a blackjack table next to me and gave the dealer $100. she gave him 2 green chips ($25x2=$50), and 10 red ($5x10=$50). apparently, one of the green chips stuck to the bottom of a red one, and he put up $30 (1g+1r), when he thought he was only putting up 2 red ones. well, the good news is that he won that hand, because his heart was beating a thousand times a minute when he realized what he had done. his luck was still running high, but the excitement started an extremely long night of listening to him hiccup. we played an hour or so at the mandalay, and then went over to the luxor next door, hiccuping all the way. it wasn't until we sat down for a snack that a waitress brought him some water, and instructed him in the finer ways of relieving him of the annoyance. after that, it was back to the lady luck to get ready for dinner and a show.

one of the finer mexican restaurants in town had a deal for a dinner and free show tickets (at the stardust). after a great dinner & 40-ounce margaritas, we went into the show and were seated in a small booth with 2-300 pound men. now, neither catman nor i are in peak condition, and we HAD just eaten a very large meal, so our portly frames crammed into tight quarters made for fairly uncomfortable seating arrangements. but the show was about to begin, and the margaritas were keeping us happier than normal, so we grinned & beared it. the curtains came up, the songs began, the girls came out with skimpy attire. ah, it didn't get any better than this. but when the guys came out with attire even skimpier than the girls, it was time to go...

back at the hotel, we quickly retired in preparation of another exciting day.
