day 1
-----
my plane arrived in las vegas at about 9:50pm, and catman wasn't scheduled to land until about 10:30pm -- so what to do at the las vegas airport while waiting? for those of you who have not been there, there are wall-to-wall slot&video machines in the gate areas. so i sat down for about 15 minutes and tested my skill at video poker. actually won 5 whole dollars, then spent the next 10 minutes trying to find a cashier to exchange my coins.
when cm's plane did finally land (only about 10 minutes late), he exited the plane with a smile and bottle of champagne, courtesy of united airlines. i knew then it would be one of those weekends... being a knowledgeable traveler, he had not checked his luggage, and because of my experience in new orleans (previous post), i hadn't either, so off we went to find our ride.
i had called our casino in advance, and asked them to have the limousine waiting for us at 10:45pm. we walked out into the quite refreshing 90 degree, dry night air (refreshing, because i had been exposed to the 110+ heat index of new orleans only a few hours before), and found about 10 limousines waiting for everyone else but us. we decided to hang out for about five minutes before going to plan B, whatever that was going to be. but four minutes later, the lady luck limo pulled up, greeted us with many more apologies than he needed to, instructed us where to find the chivas regal & ice, and whisked us away to fantasy land (better known as las vegas).
arriving at the hotel, we were greeted in style, bypassed a line of grumpy hotel guests waiting to check in, and were privately checked-in as i showed catman where to find a complimentary bottle of chivas regal -- i was sure that bottle would be his best friend on this trip, but i was wrong, so wrong. we never stayed with one drink on this whole trip. we went from scotch to whiskey to bailey's to wine to beer to champagne to long-island-ice-teas to some concoction called a "nutty irishman". it was one of those weekends...
we played about an hour of blackjack. then i explained some basic rules of craps to the catman. we were both up about $100 when we decided we had had about all the fun we could handle for one day, and crashed for the night -- with visions of cards, dice, and dancing girls swirling in our heads.

what we need is a communal FlyerTalk condo in vegas where we would know we've got a place to lay our heads (of course, what do we do when all 100 of us visit at the same time?).
