Here is 5000 km away from People's Square in Shanghai

Welcome to Lhatse

Another traffic checkpoint was right ahead. We had to stop and wait here for some minutes as we were over-speed.

Lhatse, here we left G318 Shanghai–Zhangmu Highway, which heading to Mt. Everest and Nepal.

Time was 2012-10-10 12:50, and we were eventually on G219 Kargilik–Lhatse Highway.

Truly amazing! I wish I could do this, but I don't think such a thing is open to most foreigners, is it? I assume you are a PRC citizen. Was this a rented car + driver, or did one of your party drive a rented car?

A great TR includes pictures

Can you summarize any police problems? Speed traps, document checks, bribes, fines etc?

Did almost 20000 km road tripping my self around Eastern Europe, Middle East and Central Asia this summer. Luckily a bit more populated, and change of impressions.

Amazing driving there above 5000 km. My max was about 4300 meters at the Death Highway from La Paz to Choroico in Bolivia. A must do by the way.
Especially as we lost brakes (had them replaced in Choroico), and had a flat tyre in the fog returning in dark. I was literally holding the door roadside ready to jump any second with cliffs on the other side. Rented a Toyota Corolla with driver for my self an my indian GF. I think we were the only regular car, non 4WD I saw all day.
