What the heck? "Already pinged" on new thread

I was getting ready to post a new thread in the United forum, and just as I was about to click to post it, I noticed just below, it said: Already pinged & listed 4 blogs. What the heck is that all about? Once I saw that I decided not to post, especially since the blogs didn't seem to be familiar.

Is this another 'enhancement' to drive up traffic to FT? Makes me leery of posting any new threads. Any input appreciated.

Oh too funny - the same four are on this one too. Evidently 2 are ads for properties & 2 (or 1) is a cartoon re: the couple suing UA.

Can someone please explain why the already pinged is cropping up?

Cheers.

We've asked the same question. I have no idea what this is other than it seems to be a either part of vBulletin or some new thing that IB has installed. Not initiated with us and as soon as Mikel gets some answers from IB we'll share them. I'm still stuck on figuring out what this "trackback" thing is.

i looked at your links and all of them except for the ad had links from them to FlyerTalk, but not sure what that means, sorry. Appear to be FlyerTalkers posting in those other blogs.

Thanks Randy! And I don't understand the trackback either, but didn't want to put 2 dif topics in a single thread. Already pinged when a thread hasn't been created was the startling part for me.

Cheers.

Thanks for the update. But still why are we getting 'already pinged' on threads that are not even completely started. Supposedly Trackback was some way of catching stuff, even though I'm not totally up on it. I don't get the 'already pinged' & wonder who/what/if the 4 are & how they got 'pinged' or got stuff going to them.

Cheers.

I'm not sure how those links were pinged "already," but it appears this feature might have been auto activated when setting something else and has since been turned back off.

Just did a quasi-test in starting a new thread & no ping notice. Thanks!

Cheers.

Here, too, happening on and off recently. I've been out of the country when it happened, which appears now to be coincidental. But I was thinking that it was something that got through on the business center computer at the hotel where I was staying as I'd not noticed it before. Comfort to learn I'm not alone, and that a Highly Placed Henry sees it too (and glad I did the due diligence that led here).
