I am looking into doing a cash + points redemption, which doesn't state anything about breakfast. I am just a SPG gold; therefore, I wouldn't be entitled to the complimentary breakfast people talk about through status or rate.

I've read several reports of people complaining about the difficult reaching Patong because the hotel monopolizes taxis in/out the resort. What are your thoughts?
It was 300 baht from hotel to patpong using their car. If you wait for a taxi or tuktuk to drop someone off you may negotiate 200. On return anywhere from 200 - 400 depending on how much you push it. Its a 10 min drive.

IMO rent a car is the best.
If you bored hotel food and you can visit any attractions as you wish.

Thyetus,

Just to confirm, breakfast is not included for adults in this rate? My partner and I are considering Phuket and would book this for the spa benefits if breakfast was included. We have no kids. Let me know, otherwise we can book the advance rate, which includes breakfast.

Thanks!

Has anyone stayed at this property recently? I'm planning to go around Xmas season with family. Read the reviews and it seems like its filled with Russians and smoke. Is this really the case?

Yes it is popular with Russians though due to economic circumstances maybe less so. The checkin staff are fluent in Russian which is a bit of a giveaway.

Thailand is Russia's beach get away, there are direct flight to Russia into Phuket. The only place I have been able to escape Russian tourist in Thailand is in Hua Hin.

X-mas is about double the price compared to other times of year.

Thanks for your feedback!

Is it worth staying there during xmas (peak season)? It is about $300/night during that time. I need to book 4 rooms for 3 nights.

I don't mind the crowd..but some of the reviews mentioned the loud Russians + music, I think my parents would go crazy!

I would consider Hua Hin as it would be a little more quite. I stay in the Hyatt over X-mas holidays and it wasn't bad. Maybe Koh Samui as well.

I have been there with it pretty full and enjoyed it. One thing to remember is that during Xmas and New Year they usually have compulsory functions which can also be expensive.

Its worth looking for BRG opportunities as I have a a few for this property.

I'd give this hotel a pass during extreme high season, definitely at $300/nt x 4. There are quieter SPG hotels in the vicinity. I'd also +1 Hua Hin, which is much more laid back and not sleazy like Patong Beach.

Thanks Remy for your input.

I'm trying to stay SPG, and there are only 3 choices. This one, a westin which is an hour away, and Naka, which is $500+/ night .

Guess sometimes you can't force SPG...

I would not recommend the Westin for kids, it a bit dull. The LM has a nice beach and Patong is not far. There are also a lot of family friendly tours you can book.

I'm heading to the LM in a couple weeks. Can any let me know their experience as an SPG Gold. I booked a deluxe garden view room with points. I would like to upgrade once I arrive but would like to hear if anyone has been lucky to receive an upgrade with out SPG Platinum
